ExxonMobil CEO Being Considered For Secretary Of State Role

Rex Tillerson
One of the biggest remaining decisions for President-elect Trump’s cabinet is who will be Secretary of State. There have been several high-profile names floated: from Rudy Giuliani to Mitt Romney to Democratic Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard.

Another name has been added to the list of people President-elect Trump is considering for Secretary of State. While it is a name many Americans are not familiar with, this person is a man of global influence and power who has a lot of foreign experience, albeit in a less traditionally diplomatic way.

Via McClatchy:

Despite a dinner with Mitt Romney earlier this week, President-elect Donald Trump is reportedly considering Irving resident and Exxon CEO Rex Tillerson for secretary of state.

Tillerson, who has led Exxon since 2006 and worked for the company for more than four decades, is reportedly under consideration for the nation’s top diplomatic post.

This is another one that goes along with Trump going non-traditional and picking outsiders and business leaders to help run his administration. As the CEO of one of the largest companies in the world, he has experience dealing with global leaders and foreign governments. I think this would be a great outside-the-box pick that could really help shake-up global politics.

But Tillerson has some leftist beliefs that could be cause for concern:

Even though Exxon has been criticized for deliberately misleading what its scientists knew about climate change decades ago, Tillerson believes in man-made climate change and supports the Paris climate agreement.

What do you think? Personally I like the idea of a civilian non-politician running the State Department. We aren’t doing well on the global stage and fresh thinking could be good.
