Republican Senators Want to Categorize Antifa as ‘Domestic Terrorists’

Republican Senators Ted Cruz of Texas and Bill Cassidy of Louisiana introduced a resolution Thursday that would categorize the far-left group Antifa as a “domestic terrorist organization.”

It’s about time! These illberal “activists” have no respect for the basic freedom of free speech and certainly don’t care about the rule of law.

The resolution introduced by Cruz and Cassidy states,“Whereas members of Antifa, because they believe that free speech is equivalent to violence, have used threats of violence in the pursuit of suppressing opposing political ideologies. Whereas Antifa represents opposition to the democratic ideals of peaceful assembly and free speech for all; Whereas members of Antifa have physically assaulted journalists and other individuals during protests and riots in Berkeley, California; Whereas in February of 2018, journalist Andy Ngo was intimidated and threatened with violence by protestors affiliated with Antifa.”

‘Violent Masked Bullies Who ‘Fight Fascism’ with Actual Fascism’

Antifa is a terrorist organization composed of hateful, intolerant radicals who pursue their extreme agenda through aggressive violence,” Cruz tweeted on Thursday. “Time and time again their actions have demonstrated that their central purpose is to inflict harm on those who oppose their views.”

Cassidy seconded Cruz in a press release.

“Antifa are terrorists, violent masked bullies who ‘fight fascism’ with actual fascism, protected by Liberal privilege,” he said.Bullies get their way until someone says no. Elected officials must have courage, not cowardice, to prevent terror.”

It’s important that the resolution cites the attack on journalist Andy Ngo in Portland, Oregon, in June, as an example of the kind of domestic terrorism advocates.

“Whereas on June 29, 2019, while covering demonstrations in Portland, Oregon, journalist Andy Ngo was physically attacked by protestors affiliated with Antifa,” the resolution states.

Whether this passes remains to be seen, but at least some in Congress are calling out this violent radical left group for what they truly are.
