Republican Lawmaker Refuses To Apologize For Kamala Harris Sex Joke – He Won’t Be ‘Politically Correct’

A Republican state senator from Oklahoma is refusing to back down after making a sex joke about Vice President Kamala Harris that some are saying was “misogynistic.”

State Senator Refuses To Back Down

Sen. Nathan Dahm took to Twitter to defend himself, sending a brutal message to anyone that is offended by his “hilarious” joke.

“BREAKING: if you think I’m going to be ‘politically correct’ you need to realize a few things. 1) you obviously know nothing about me 2) you’re in for a bad time 3) I’ve been assured my jokes are hilarious 4) your emotional opinions are irrelevant,” Dahm tweeted.

Dahm’s Joke

Dahm made the joke in an interview with KTUL-TV in which he was discussing a bill proposing a ban on paper straws.

“You can’t use a paper straw for a milkshake but maybe Kamala Harris could because of her vast experience, maybe she would be able to get that accomplished,” Dahm said.

He made this comment as he elaborated on a statement he’d made the day before, saying that paper straws “fall apart and turn to mush quicker than Joe Biden trying to string together a coherent sentence. They collapse like Mitt Romney under the slightest amount of pressure, and even with Kamala Harris…well, never mind.”

Dahm Doubles Down

The reporter responded to the joke by asking why, when having an “adult conversation about deregulation,” Dahm would choose to “throw in basically an oral sex implication.”

The 38 year-old senator still refused to back down, saying that he is an “equal opportunist” by mocking both Biden and Romney as well. He then clarified the Harris joke by saying viewers could “figure out how she got trajection into politics,” by doing their own research.

Dahm Gets Backlash

Dahm was referring to the longstanding rumors that Harris advanced her career by dating influential men who could help her, rather than through her own accomplishments. Backlash against Dahm was swift, with Oklahoma’s Democrat House Minority Leader Emily Virgin saying that his joke was “despicable.”

“This is not the attitude or the feeling of the vast majority of people at the State Capitol,” she said.

Oklahoma state Rep. Ajay Pittman, a Democrat, spoke out as well to say that she will not accept an apology from Dahm to her or “Vice President Harris, women or our communities of color.”

“Dahm has made it abundantly clear that he was intentional with his words. … The justification for sexism given by Senator Dahm in and of itself is grounds for censure,” Pittman said.
