Republican Greg Steube Blasts Leftists Criticizing Trump's July 4 Speech: 'They Will Criticize Anything He Does'

On Sunday, Republican Congressman Greg Steube of Florida defended President Donald Trump’s Fourth of July speech in the wake of criticism from the left who called his remarks divisive.

Rep. Steube: ‘Liberal Democrats are going to criticize the president on everything that he does’

“Well, liberal Democrats are going to criticize the president on everything that he does,” Steube told host Jon Scott during “Fox Report Weekend.”

“I mean, just look at the last several years with a Democratic House, and every single thing that he’s tried to accomplish, they have tried to thwart it,” Steube added, “so it doesn’t surprise me at all that Democratic senators are criticizing just about everything he did.”

Steube: ‘I just think it is disrespectful to the office of the president and the type of things he’s trying to do to put America first’

Trump promised on America’s Independence Day that he would “safeguard our values” from the country’s enemies, who he described as the “radical left” among other things.

“We are now in the process of defeating the radical left, the anarchists, the agitators, the looters and the people who, in many instances, have absolutely no clue what they are doing,” President Trump said. “We will never allow an angry mob to tear down our statues, erase our history, indoctrinate our children.”

Rep. Steube praised Trump’s July 4th address and torched Democrats who took issue with the President’s failure to mention the nearly 130,000 people in the U.S. who are known to have died from coronavirus

“They will criticize anything he does, and I just think it is disrespectful to the office of the president and the type of things he’s trying to do to put America first,” Steube said.

Steube addresses COVID-19 spike

Steube also mentioned that spike in COVID-19 cases, including the 11,400 new cases reported in his home state of Florida on Saturday, were due to an increase in testing.

“We’re testing over 200,000 people a week in Florida. That’s a staggeringly high number, so of course, your number of positives are going to be higher,” Steube said.

The congressman went on to note that most of the new cases came from young people, who are less susceptible to death and serious health problems related to coronavirus.

“If you look at it from a health-care perspective of the serious nature of the cases that we have, yes, more people are testing positive,” Steube explained, “but your more serious cases are staying about the same, because it is the younger population of people that are testing positive.”

Two days before Trump’s 4th of July speech, Rep. Steube trumpeted the President’s encouraging jobs numbers.

“4.8 MILLION jobs added in the month of June!” the congressman tweeted. “@realDonaldTrump has again exceeded expectations in putting people back to work and beating this pandemic.”
