Christopher Suprun, a Republican member of the Electoral College from Texas, has vowed to NOT cast his vote for President-elect Donald Trump.
In an op-ed column published at the New York Times, Suprun cites concerns about Trump’s lack of foreign policy experience and possible conflicts of interest in his business dealings as reasons to not vote the will of the people he represents in Texas, where Trump beat Hillary 53-43.
Well, that and apparently he finds Trump’s criticisms of Saturday Night Live disqualifying.
No, seriously.
Suprun explained that “Mr. Trump goes out of his way to attack the cast of Saturday Night Live for bias” and says this is proof that he doesn’t “encourage civil discourse, but chooses to stoke fear and create outrage.”
The Republican elector said he would instead cast his vote for Ohio governor John Kasich.

A Republican member of the Electoral College, Christopher Suprun, has published an op-ed in the NYT explaining on Monday explaining why he will not be casting his vote for Donald Trump.
“The election of the next president is not yet a done deal,” Texas elector Suprun writes the New York Times article. “Electors of conscience can still do the right thing for the good of the country. Presidential electors have the legal right and a constitutional duty to vote their conscience.”
If Suprun follows through on his promise next month, he would become the first “faithless elector” since 2004.
“Trump lacks the foreign policy experience and demeanor needed to be commander in chief”, writes Suprun, taking particular issue with the president-elect’s pick of retired Lt. Gen. Mike Flynn as his national security adviser. Trump’s business dealings might pose unacceptable conflicts of interest, Suprun adds — a problem that could seem him “impeached in his first year given his dismissive responses.”
The reality is, Suprun appears more interested in garnering media attention by publicly revealing his own personal wishy-washy conflicts about Trump’s election.
In August, he told Politico that he was so dismayed by Trump being the Republican nominee that he’d actually consider casting his vote for Hillary Clinton.
In the days following Trump’s win, he flip-flopped back to a position of doing what he was chosen to do, telling the New York Post he “always planned to vote for his party’s nominee.”
Now he’s flip-flopped yet again.
Instead of going on a schizophrenic media tour, Mr. Suprun, perhaps it’d be in everybody’s best interest to do your job and vote the will of the people.
