Report: New York Prioritizing Non-White People In Distributing Lifesaving Antibody Treatments, COVID Tests

Multiple reports suggest both New York City and New York state are discouraging white residents from trying to access potentially life-saving monoclonal antibody treatments.

Reports suggest New York state is discouraging white people from trying to access potentially life-saving monoclonal antibody treatments because they are being prioritized for minority communities, while New York City is following the same tactic when it comes to COVID tests.

New York’s Department of Health released a document that specifically states that race will be a factor in distributing monoclonal antibody treatment and antiviral pills which are in short supply.

The document, dated December 27th, 2021, highlights risk factors that will be considered when distributing the treatments.

One such “risk factor” is being a race or ethnicity that is not White, they write, due to “longstanding systemic health and social inequities.”

“Non-white race or Hispanic/Latino ethnicity should be considered a risk factor, as longstanding systemic health and social inequities have contributed to an increased risk of severe illness and death from COVID-19,” it states.

New York Prioritizing Medical Treatment for Non-White People

A spokesperson for the New York Department of Health issued a statement claiming their “prioritization guidance comes directly from the CDC” and that neither “race nor ethnicity would disqualify an individual from receiving treatment.”

It won’t disqualify anybody, it just might place them a little further back in line is all.

Executive Director of America Matters Jim Hanson criticized the NYDOH document saying, “There’s a word for discrimination by skin color in medical treatment.”

New York City health officials, meanwhile, are also reportedly prioritizing COVID tests for more racially diverse areas over majority-white neighborhoods.

This, according to emails obtained by the New York Post.

One such email shows a staffer for City Councilman Joe Borelli expressing concerns that constituents on Staten Island’s South Shore were having trouble getting tested at city facilities.

“Our office has been receiving calls regarding the mobile NYC H+H testing sites such as Wolfes Pond Park. It appears many are waiting with delays, and are being turned away after waiting for hours,” the staffer wrote.

“The agency responded the same day and informed [the staffer] that they would prioritize neighborhoods flagged by the city’s Taskforce on Racial Inclusion & Equity,” the Post reported.

The task force indicates decisions are made based on an analysis of “health status, living conditions, social inequities, occupation, and COVID-19 Wave 1 impact.”

A representative with the New York Department of Health defended prioritizing non-whites in distributing tests saying minority communities had “borne the brunt of this pandemic due to structural racism.”

But in New York, the state has been solidly Democratic since 2019, holding the Governor’s office as well as the Senate and Assembly. New York City has been a liberal cess-poll for what seems like forever now.

If there is structural racism there, it stands to reason Democrats are actually behind it.

Using Race to Decide

News of the Empire State’s race-based COVID treatment and testing policies comes as the New York Times reports that the “death rate has risen particularly sharply for middle-aged white people.”

“The virus is now responsible for a higher share of deaths from all causes for younger Americans and white Americans than it was before all adults were eligible for vaccines,” they write.

New York Governor Kathy Hochul late last month declared racism to be a “public health emergency.”

“For far too long, communities of color in New York have been held back by systemic racism and inequitable treatment,” Hochul said in a statement.

“I am proud to sign legislation that addresses this crisis head-on, addressing racism, expanding equity, and improving access for all.”

Hochul failed to note that the racism is coming from her own Health Department and the largest city in her state.
