NBC News is reporting that Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer is “pessimistic” about Georgia Senate Democrat candidates Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock’s chances of winning their runoff elections against incumbent Republican Sens. Kelly Loeffler and David Perdue on January 5.

NBC News noted that after outside Democrat individuals and groups spent large amounts in 2020 down-ballot races with lackluster results, Schumer has stopped meeting with donors.

Schumer’s Office Denies Report

Who wins these runoff elections will determine if Republicans maintain a majority in the Senate or if Democrats can take control.

If Republicans Loeffler and Perdue lose did lose, vice president-elect Kamala Harris would become the tie-breaking vote in the Senate, giving Democrats an effective majority.

 Schumer spokesperson Justin Goodman denied the NBC News report, saying, “This is absolutely not true and this anonymous ‘source’ has no idea what they’re talking about, and it’s really sad NBC published it.”

“Schumer has diligently made calls and fundraised for both Georgia candidates and is optimistic about their chances in January,” Goodman added.

Dem Campaign Managers ‘Sounding The Alarm’ On Insufficient Donations

The campaign managers for Warnock and Ossoff, Jerid Kurtz and Ellen Foster, respectively, recently said they were “sounding the alarm” over lack of fundraising in a memo obtained by NBC News. 

“To win this election in 8 days, we need to continue our historic efforts to turn out every single voter — but we won’t be able to do that if our fundraising revenue continues to fall,” the campaign managers wrote.

This despite, according to NBC, each Democrat candidate raising over $100 million dollars, significantly more than the Republican candidates.

Desperate Dems

The memo also stated that more “direct voter contact” could be the key to the Democratic candidates campaigning more effectively.

“Our Republican counterparts don’t have to spend as much of their precious resources on TV and can invest in the area that is most important at this stage: direct voter contact,” the memo states.

But at least according to NBC News, many believe Georgians are giving up on the Democrats running for U.S. Senate – and apparently so has Chuck Schumer.
