Remember When Tulsi Gabbard Shredded Kamala Harris’ Horrible Record On Criminal Justice?

When presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden chose Senator and former primary rival Kamala Harris for his running mate on Tuesday, many were reminded of the moment when Tulsi Gabbard absolutely decimated Harris during the 2020 Democratic debates.

It was over a year ago that Harris was campaigning for the White House competitively on her own and was considered by many observers to be a top-tier candidate. Harris targeted Biden on the prime time debate stage, claiming that the former vice president and senator rubbed elbows with racists and segregationists.

Tulsi destroys Kamala

When Harris went into a July primary debate the former California prosecutor was a prime target for Democratic rivals seeking to stop her momentum.

Among the most notable moments to emerge from the event featured Hawaii Democratic Rep. Tulsi Gabbard tearing into Harris’s record as California’s attorney general, highlighting her glaring hypocrisy over marijuana use.

“Senator Harris said she’s proud of her record as a prosecutor and that she’ll be a prosecutor president,” Gabbard said, “But I’m deeply concerned about this record.”

“She put over 1,500 people in jail for marijuana violations, and then laughed about it when she was asked if she’d ever smoked marijuana,” Gabbard said as the split screen showed a flustered Harris.

“She blocked evidence that would have freed a man from death row until the courts forced her to do so,” Gabbard charged.

Harris drops out of presidential race after Gabbard exchange

“She kept people in prison beyond their sentences to use them as cheap labor for the state of California,” Gabbard blistered. “And she fought to keep cash bail system in place that impacts poor people in the worst kind of way.”

Harris shot back at Gabbard that she’s “proud of that record,” but after the debate, she rapidly lost ground in the polls. She was essentially done.

In December, Harris dropped out of the race two months before the first contest in Iowa.

The clip of Gabbard taking down Harris made the rounds in the wake of Biden announcing her as his vice presidential pick.

Sen. Rand Paul piled on too.

The senator tweeted, “Remember when @TulsiGabbard reminded Kamala Harris of her terrible record of locking up thousands of young minorities, of being an overzealous drug warrior and of her record as a harsh prosecutor?

I do.”
