Reba McEntire: ‘Fans Want to Hear Music, Not Politics’

Reba McEntire is one of the most successful female country music artists of all time, selling more than 85 million records worldwide, winning 2 Grammy Awards, 7 CMA Awards, and 13 ACM awards during her more than 40-year career.

While many celebrities and entertainers use their public platform to push their personal and political agenda, Reba makes sure to steer clear of anything controversial during her concerts.

McEntire appeared on ABC’s The View Wednesday and was asked to respond to rapper Drake who went on an anti-Trump rant during a recent performance. Co-host Joy Behar asked McEntire “If you ever went on a political rant in the middle of your act, what would happen?”

The country music superstar responded with class, noting that as an entertainer her fans pay to see her play music not spout politics:

My fans would be shocked. I take it this way: they have paid their hard-earned money to come in there and fill a seat — parking, getting something at the concession stand, go and eat before the concert — I am there to entertain them, to take their worries away from them, so when they walk out, they can kind of have a little lift in their step and go, ‘Aw, that was such a great break from all the problems I have to deal with during daily life.’ So I’m not going to give them my political views.

Many Americans likely find McEntire’s comments refreshing, as they don’t want to go to a concert and be lectured by liberal celebrities about politics or any other subject, for that matter.
