Paul Tells Fauci: 'I Think It’s Time You Resign'

On Thursday, Sen. Rand Paul slammed top White House COVID Dr. Anthony Fauci during a Senate hearing for what Paul considers his dishonesty about the funding for gain-of-function research in Wuhan, China.

Paul told Fauci he should resign and added that the doctor has “learned nothing from this pandemic.”

The National Institutes of Health admitted in a letter last month that they had funded gain-of-function research in the infamous Wuhan lab in China.

Paul to Fauci: ‘You appear to have learned nothing from this pandemic. I think it’s time you resign’

The New York Post reported, “Paul (R-Ky.) grilled the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, part of the National Institutes of Health, on why he repeatedly denied that the virus research was funded by the NIH prior to the COVID-19 pandemic.”

“Gain-of-function could cause a pandemic even worse next time,” Paul said during the hearing. “It could endanger civilization as we know it.”

Paul contended that Fauci had “misled” the country by refusing to admit what the senator believes to be the truth about gain of function research.

“Your repeated denials have worn thin and the majority of Americans, frankly, don’t believe you,” Paul said. “Your persistent denials are not just a stain on your reputation but are a clear and present danger to the country and to the world.”

“You appear to have learned nothing from this pandemic,” Paul said.

“I think it’s time you resign,” he added.

The National Institutes of Health wrote in a letter that they funded a group called EcoHealth Alliance, which in turn funneled money to the Wuhan Institute of Virology, which conducted research on bat coronaviruses.

Though, the NIH also claimed that the specific research in question “could not have become SARS-CoV-2” and that EcoHealth Alliance violated reporting requirements to the NIH.

Paul On Fire

That’s when the libertarian-leaning senator also accused the NIH of updating definitions on their website, a change Paul claims is the organization’s attempt to redefine “gain of function.”

“You’ve changed the definition on your website to cover your ass,” Paul said bluntly.

Fauci claimed that Paul was “egregiously incorrect in what he says.”

“Senator, with all due respect, I disagree with so many of the things you’ve said,” Fauci stated.
