Actor Jussie Smollett can count Queen Latifah among his supporters.
Latifah said she believes the “Empire” star’s story about being being attacked by two white Trump supporters in Chicago.
Smollett claims two men attacked him and attempted to put a noose around his neck while yelling, “MAGA country.”
Smollett has since been charged with filing a false police report.
Chicago police allege the actor hired two Nigerian brothers who had been extras on “Empire” to help him stage the attack. There is video of the brothers buying masks and rope before the attack — and they have already admitted through their lawyer that they regret their involvement in the case.
None of this is definitive enough for Latifah, however, who has appeared on “Empire” and stars on the spinoff show “Star.”

“The guy I’ve seen has always been someone who cares about people, who cares about others, and who’s very kind and who’s always been cool and sweet,” she told Yahoo News.
She continued, “And that’s just the guy I know, so until I can see some definitive proof – which I haven’t seen yet – then, you know, I gotta go with him until I see otherwise.”
“Empire” star Terrence Howard also recently defended Smollett.
“All your lil homies got you. We love the hell outta you,” he wrote to Smollett on his Instagram account.
