Pearl Jam just released a bizarre new music video for their melodramatic environmental doomsday song “Retrograde” that stars none other than teenage climate activist Greta Thunberg.
The director of the music video has since spoken out to reveal that Thunberg plays a fortune teller who is warning the world of the climate destruction that she sees coming. This is not a huge jump for Thunberg, who often appears to see herself as a psychic in real life as she screams at the world to either submit to her radical climate change demands or watch the planet be destroyed.
The animated music video features a man paying a visit to a fortune teller, who presents him with a crystal ball. As he looks into it, he can see melting glaciers and devastating floods destroying cities like Manhattan, Paris, Seattle, and London, while wildfires sweep across Australia.
Josh Wakely, the video’s director, confirmed to Variety that the psychic was Thunberg, adding that Pearl Jam had planned to shoot a live music video but had to animate it instead because of COVID-19.
“Something Pearl Jam has done so extraordinarily well for 30 years is to speak truth to power and fire warning shots,” he explained. “Several other Gigaton songs spoke to me, but this one kept me up at night.”
Wakely went on to add that he cast Thunberg because she was able to convey the necessary “emotion” for the video to work, describing her as “an absolute stone-cold hero” for her climate change crusade. Because of the coronavirus pandemic, the director had to use existing footage of the 17-year-old leftwing activist and then super-impose her face onto an actor.
“She never had to act a frame, but she provided that emotion I was looking for,” Wakely stated. “It was a huge thrill to see an email in my inbox from her saying that she loved it.”
Pearl Jam has long taken pride in the fact that they speak “truth to power,” but really this just means they promote radically leftwing causes like every other crazed leftist in the entertainment industry. Back in 2018, the band found themselves in hot water when they released a poster that depicted a dead President Donald Trump and an American bald eagle eating the remains of his corpse.
