Promises Kept: Trump To Withdraw Troops From Afghanistan And Iraq

According to media reports, President Trump is set to withdraw thousands of troops from Afghanistan and Iraq before January next year.

The move would be another promise kept by the President, who has long been a critic of both the Iraq War and the 19-years-running War in Afghanistan.

Thousands Of Troops To Leave Afghanistan And Iraq

US officials told the Associated Press that President Trump would take thousands of troops out of Afghanistan and Iraq, mostly from the former.

Currently, there are around 5,000 troops in Afghanistan, and over 3,000 in Iraq – Trump will reduce the total to 2,500.

According to these sources, an executive order is being drafted.

If President Trump went through with this withdrawal, he would once again be pursuing a policy aim that the majority of the American people support.

The Deep State Wants Endless War

President Trump is once again facing significant obstacles to carrying out his policy.

Both Democrats and Republicans agree on ending the War in Afghanistan.

However, the neoconservatives, the deep state, and their allies in the military-industrial complex and Congress are viciously opposed.

Mitch McConnell, leader of the Senate, slammed the President’s plan in the chamber on Monday.

“Of course, all wars must end,” McConnell said. “The question is now how they end and whether the terms on which they end are favorable or unfavorable to the security and interests of the United States… [Nothing suggests that] if we lose resolve, the terrorists will simply leave us alone,” he continued.

“There’s no American who does not wish the war in Afghanistan against terrorists and their enablers had already been conclusively won. But… a rapid withdrawal of U.S. forces from Afghanistan now would hurt our allies and delight the people who wish us harm,” he added.

Earlier this year, Democrats in Congress, aided by Republican Liz Cheney, whose father was an instrumental architect of the Iraq War, attempted to stop President Trump from withdrawing troops from Afghanistan by blocking funds unless ridiculous conditions could be met.

Officials Lied To The Administration

In fact, the deep state is so ingrained in stopping President Trump from ending the wars in the Middle East, that officials admitted they lied to the President about the situations on the ground.

Jim Jeffrey, America’s top envoy to the multinational coalition against ISIS, said he repeatedly lied to senior government officials about the actual numbers of American troops that remained in Syria.

“We were always playing shell games to not make clear to our leadership how many troops we had there,” he explained.

When the President Trump wanted to withdraw in 2018, the real number of American troops left behind was “a lot more” than what the President knew about.

A further withdrawal attempt in October 2019 was blocked. For all intents and purposes, “there never was a Syria withdrawal,” Jeffrey said.

To read the reports about this, it sounds even worse than just lying to the President.

It sounds like disobeying direct orders from the Commander-in-Chief.

Retired Army General Raymond Thomas summed up the situation:

President Trump Must Cement His Legacy

Regardless of the final outcome of the election, the President must complete these key pieces of his agenda so that they cannot be overturned.

We know the establishment wants endless foreign wars to continue, and President Trump has a chance to finish off the Bush legacy once and for all.

We know Biden would keep our troops mired down for years to come in Afghanistan and Iraq, and this must not be allowed to happen.

The War in Afghanistan is older than some of the people fighting it.

Enough.
