Trump won’t let it go.
The President is still considering firing Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein. That’s according to a White House source who spoke to Jonathan Swan of Axios.
Swan reports:
President Trump “hasn’t cooled off on” Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein (who oversees the Mueller investigation) and could still fire him, according to a source close to Trump.
The source gave Axios a behind-the-scenes read on the latest thinking at the White House, which the source said is “in a defensive posture.”
“Trump doesn’t know exactly what to do with [Rosenstein]. They don’t have a clean way to get rid of him. That’s the problem.”But Rosenstein may be “about to be spit-roasted.”

President Trump has made it clear he doesn’t trust Rosenstein. He distrusts the #2 at the Justice Department despite having the reassurance that Robert Mueller isn’t investigating Trump personally in the Russia probe.

Trump was recently asked if he plans on firing Rosenstein, in addition to Mueller, to which he responded: “They’ve been saying I’m going to get rid of them for the last 3 months, 4 months, 5 months, and they’re still here.”

Rosenstein hasn’t been completely open and willing to collaborate with Congress on numerous ongoing investigations. This has led to some Republican members threatening to hold Rosenstein in contempt. This week, two Republican representatives, Mark Meadows and Jim Jordan, met with Rosenstein in order to push him to release more documents related to the Russia probe and previous investigation into Hillary Clinton’s illegal email practices.
With Rosenstein being more forthcoming to Congress, especially after the release of the Comey memos, and after assuring Trump that he isn’t being targeted by Mueller, will that convince the President to let him stay?
Trump appears to be still considering firing an option.
