On Tuesday, President Joe Biden responded to supporters of former President Donald Trump who brandished anti-Biden signs.
Biden made his comments during a trip to Howell, Michigan.
Biden spoke at a union training center in Howell to an outdoor crowd of under 50 people, including Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D), Democratic House members and various local officials. This was his first stop on a cross-country tour.
The president eventually responded to the many Trump supporters who held signs that read “F*** Joe Biden,” “Trump won,” and various other anti-Biden slogans.
Trump supporters also held Trump flags and shouted at Biden’s motorcade as he headed to his speaking event.
“We don’t want ya,” one man shouted. “Get out of here.”
Biden decided to use one part of his speech to address the negative sentiment he witnessed as he arrived earlier.
The president also attempted to remind Trump’s supporters who won the 2020 election.
“Notwithstanding some of the signs I saw coming in, that’s why 81 million Americans voted for me,” Biden said.
Biden continued, “The largest number of votes in American history, a clear majority are supporting, when they supported me.”
Biden maintained that he won the election in part because so many Americans are behind his trillion dollar spending bills, including the $3.5 trillion bill currently stuck in Congress.
The president said that seeing all the signs hurling negative sentiments toward him only made him feel more energized and determined.
When Biden was asked by a reporter for his reaction to the signs, he said “Makes me smile.” replied.
“I get more pumped up,” Biden added.
