Can any one of our readers imagine the current Commander-in-Chief doing something like this?
President George W. Bush is hosting his 5th annual bike ride for Wounded Warriors in Texas beginning today and ending on May 2nd.
The event, known as the W100K, will involve 20 servicemen and women wounded in the global war on terror, and as the namesake indicates, will stretch 100 kilometers over some rigorous Texas terrain.
Bush comments on the W100K web site:
“I’ll be riding across the deserts of Texas with wounded warriors to show the unbelievable character of our men and women in uniform…it’s a ride to herald people who were dealt a severe blow and said, ‘I’m not going to let it tear me down.'”
Via Fox News Insider:
He (Dr. Marc Siegel) said the Bushes invited 17 Wounded Warriors into their home, with another 14 joining on Saturday.
Siegel said what’s inspiring about the ride is that President Bush “acts as one of them.”
The event seeks to bring attention to the issues of PTSD among returning veterans and traumatic brain injuries.
Here is an incredibly inspiring video about the event and President Bush’s role:
Fox News covered the start of the event, and showed the former President speaking about why they host the W100K:
Bush is using a rigorous bicycle race to show his support of our men and women in the military.
Meanwhile, President Obama uses his bike to… well… do this.
