Poll: Who Should Be the Next White House Communications Director

poll white house communications director

Last evening, we got word via Maggie Haberman of the New York Times that Hope Hicks, the long-time Trump confidant and White House Communications Director, was resigning.

This was a major blow to a White House struggling to maintain talent in a city totally lacking love for Trump’s unorthodox administration.

Hicks wasn’t the first Trump White House comms director to resign. We all remember that short-lived but much-loved stint of Anthony Scaramucci, the vulgar Wall Street investor who was canned after going on a drunken tirade to an opposition reporter.

So now the question on everyone’s mind in Washington is: Who will replace Hope Hicks as the White House communications director?

This morning, Mike Allen of Axios ran a short-list of potential candidates. He named the following:

  • Press Secretary Sarah Sanders
  • Heather Nauert, a former Fox News anchor
  • Mercedes Schlapp, current White House Director of Strategic Communications
  • Tony Sayegh, the current Treasury’s Assistant Secretary for Public Affairs
  • Jason Miller — a former Trump campaign communications official

Our poll is a little more imaginative. After all, President Trump doesn’t run a normal administration. He wants a White House with star power, and he wants to be backed by people who will defend him in front of combative press.

The next White House communications director should have the knowledge and expertise needed for the job, but should also have nerves of steel to fend off attacks against the President.

As Trump would say, we need to get tough. That means a comms director who isn’t afraid to stand up for our country and our president when the press is attacking like an unhinged drunk in bar fight.

So please, take our poll above and tell us what you think. Should Laura Ingraham step down from Fox to become comms director? What about Trey Gowdy, who is retiring from Congress after this year?

Take the poll above and share this with your friends now!
