A new poll indicates voters are drifting away from our elected officials’ insistence that it is America’s job to defend and protect Ukraine, especially when it affects gas prices and inflation.
A Morning Consult poll released on Monday shows only 42% believe it’s the United States’ role to help Ukraine in their conflict with Russia – including just 29% of Republicans and 38% of independents.
Demonstrating once again that Democrats are on an island, 56% of that party’s voters feel it is America’s duty to intercede on Ukraine’s behalf in some manner.
With just 29% of Republicans supporting this nation’s role in the conflict, it is confounding that a clear majority of GOP lawmakers have gone along willingly with Democrats to send tens of billions in taxpayer funds to the Eastern European country.
Instead, anybody opposed to sending resources the American people could surely use in difficult times to Ukraine is immediately branded “pro-Putin.”

America Not Obligated to Help Ukraine
The latest poll showing less than half of Americans believe the federal government should defend Ukraine comes as reports have surfaced of a bipartisan effort to lock in a staggering $50 billion in additional military aid for the country.
The additional amount, if agreed to, would bring the total financial aid provided to Ukraine to well over $110 billion. And it’s being discussed now as a means to ram it through before a new Congress is sworn in this January.
You know, before some America First politicians arrive to put a stop to it, hopefully.
The Morning Consult poll also shows the American people are growing more fractured over our role in the Ukraine-Russia conflict. Especially when it comes to matters that affect our everyday lives.
Just 44% of respondents across all political spectrums support sanctions against Russia if it means higher gas prices here at home.
The same percentage – less than half – think sanctions against Russia are acceptable if it means skyrocketing inflation and higher prices at the grocery store.

Americans Growing Tired of Supporting Ukraine
The poll’s findings do not mean voters aren’t concerned about the war that has been raging for nearly nine months.
82% say they are “very” or “somewhat” concerned about Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, while 63% support wrestling refugees as a result of the war.
But it does signal a public more skeptical of the need for America to sacrifice during difficult times to support a war effort thousands of miles away.
A similar poll back in April saw 48% indicate it’s the United States’ role to help Ukraine in their conflict with Russia – 6 points higher than today – while well over half supported sanctioning Russia even if it meant higher inflation and gas prices.
President Biden has indicated the American people are expected to sacrifice “as long as it takes.”

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) said in an interview last week that Republicans will not write “a blank check” for America to defend Ukraine should they regain control of the House after the midterms.

“I think people are gonna be sitting in a recession and they’re not going to write a blank check to Ukraine,” McCarthy said. “They just won’t do it. … It’s not a free blank check.”
Heard some on MSNBC becoming positively apoplectic about Kevin McCarthy’s remark that if GOP takes House, it will not write ‘blank check’ for Ukraine. Meaning: US aid is not unlimited. Not sure why that is controversial.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) countered by insisting the notion that America has written a blank check to Ukraine is “not true.”
“Ukrainians have dealt with any assistance we have given them … with great integrity, with great compliance, with great accountability, and with great transparency,” she said.
Really?
Then why, when Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) temporarily blocked the $40 billion Ukraine aid package back in May, demanding that an Inspector General monitor how the funds were being spent, was there very little support to go along with it?
“It’s threatening our own national security, and it’s frankly a slap in the face to millions of taxpayers who are struggling to buy gas, groceries, and find baby formula,” Paul said of the exorbitant amounts of aid America is shelling out to help defend Ukraine.
