It is fair to say that both President Donald Trump and self-described “socialist” congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez are considered polarizing figures to large groups of Americans. As many people love them as loathe them depending on where they fall on the political spectrum.
But is it possible that Trump and Ocasio-Cortez are about equal in their popularity?
A new Rasmussen poll shows that while only one-in-three voters has a favorable opinion the congresswoman, that’s not much different from where Trump stands.
If Ocasio-Cortez were old enough to run for president, she might be highly competitive.
“A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone and online survey finds that, if the 2020 presidential race was between Trump and Ocasio-Cortez, 43% of Likely U.S. Voters would vote for Trump, while 40% would vote for Ocasio-Cortez. A sizable 17% are undecided,” Rasmussen reports.
Ocasio-Cortez’s 40 percent isn’t far from Trump’s 43 percent and is within the margin of error. Rasmussen explains, “The survey of 1,000 Likely Voters was conducted on January 10 and 13, 2019 by Rasmussen Reports. The margin of sampling error is +/- 3 percentage points with a 95% level of confidence.”
Would that many Americans really vote for a socialist? According to Rasmussen: yes, they would.
That’s a discomforting thought.
Progressive shooting star Ocasio-Cortez now almost matches Trump appeal in latest Rasmussen poll. The barrage of weak conservative attacks on her have backfired as I predicted. Congratulations @AOC! https://t.co/yg1YtQPquE

Ocasio-Cortez and the President had a public spat recently, where the congresswoman called Trump “racist” in an interview. When asked about it by a reporter, Trump dismissed her easily.
The Political Insider reported, “On Monday morning, a reporter tried to bait the President into responding to the allegations and he swatted them away like an irritating fly.”
“Mr. President, congresswoman Ocasio-Cortez called you a racist,’ the supposed journalist blurted out as Trump was fielding questions.
Indicating that he hadn’t heard the comments or that he may not even know who she is, Trump responded, “Who did?”
“Congresswoman Ocasio-Cortez,” the reporter yelled back.
“Who cares? She … ” Trump replied, waving his hand and scoffing at the reporter’s inquiry with a look of disdain.”
It was hilarious to watch Donald Trump be so dismissive of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, but the sad fact is that if she were just a few years older she could give the President a run for his money.
