Police Raid Newsweek Headquarters

NEW YORK - MAY 05: People stand outside Newsweek headquarters in midtown Manhattan on May 5, 2010 in New York City. The Washington Post Company has announced that they plan to sell it's subsidiary Newsweek magazine, which it has owned since 1961, and have hired an investment banking firm to broker the deal. The liberal publication Newsweek just experienced a very unpleasant visit from police this morning at the company headquarters in midtown Manhattan. More than a dozen police officers showed up at the location, which is at 7 Hanover Square.

The reason for the visit wasn’t entirely clear. And even the jurisdiction of the officers wasn’t clear either. From The Outline:

The reason for the visit was not clear, but one employee said police were taking photos of the company’s servers.

Employees said the police appeared to be from the NYPD, but a spokesperson for the NYPD said its officers were not involved. A spokesperson for the Manhattan District Attorney declined to comment.

Police are still there currently:

There are some reports that it is indeed the NYPD that is on the scene at the office. But it’s still not confirmed who the officers are that are currently investigating the headquarters.

What is clear, however, is that Newsweek has taken a decidedly antagonistic approach to President Trump and conservatives in general in recent years. The once-famed magazine has ceased being a serious journalistic outlet, and now published unhinged fan fiction, such as piece like this from earlier today:

Can you say crazy?

Perhaps police raided the cruddy old magazine’s headquarters to finally shut down its spurious nonsense. Newsweek has outlived its usefulness. Why not put the thing to bed for good?

Joking aside, it will be interesting to see why the police are really investigating Newsweek.
