Hillary Clinton Aide Says Only One Man Could Have Defeated Trump in 2016

Philippe Reines, a former top adviser to Hillary Clinton, told a gathering of students at a Washington Center event that there is only one person on the Democrat side who could have defeated Donald Trump in 2016.

“I don’t think any Democrat would have beaten Donald Trump aside from President Obama,” Reines said, noting that a good portion of Obama supporters had cast their vote for the Republican.

“Strategically, I don’t know,” he said. “In hindsight, there were some very big problems that would have affected any Democrat.”

“I think one out of every five voters came out and said they voted for Donald Trump, they had voted for Barack Obama in 2012, and they continued to approve of the job Barack Obama was doing last year,” Reines said.

Wait just a minute … If 20 percent of the voters were Obama supporters who chose Trump, doesn’t that make those same voters racist, misogynistic, xenophobes?

Interestingly enough, Reines goes on to list a host of reasons that somebody like say, a Joe Biden, would have lost to Trump as well. Reasons that include Obamacare, trade, and being a Washington insider. Reasons that, um, probably would have bogged down Obama as well. The man’s name, after all, is in ‘Obamacare.’

Reines seems to be ignoring the fact that the former President urged Democrats to support Clinton under the guise of her victory serving as a third term for the Obama agenda, something that clearly turned voters off.

In fact, the Trump campaign was more than eager to push that same message.

“We know exactly what four years of Hillary Clinton will bring: all the failures of the Obama years, but with less charm and more lies,” top Trump aide Chris Christie said.

Just about the only person who agrees with Reines would be Obama himself.

“I’m confident that if I — if I had run again and articulated it, I think I could’ve mobilized a majority of the American people to rally behind it,” the former President said in the wake of Hillary’s defeat.
