Pelosi Mocks Ocasio-Cortez and Her Little Band of Progressives

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi dismissed Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and her far-left band of extremists in Congress as “like five people.”

During an interview with Lesley Stahl that aired Sunday on CBS News’ “60 Minutes,” Pelosi was asked how she is dealing with a flank in the party that brands itself as socialists, while others supposedly present themselves as moderates.

Her assessment? Ocasio-Cortez really doesn’t play a big role.

“Over here on the left flank are these self-described socialists, on the right, these moderates,” Stahl claimed.

It is a ridiculous notion in and of itself, considering every top Democratic presidential candidate, many who are coming from Congress, have endorsed radical programs such as the Green New Deal and Medicare for All.

“By and large, whatever orientation they came to Congress with, they know that we have to hold the center,” Pelosi countered. “That we have to go down the mainstream.”

Again, absurd because these freshman Democrats have been as far from mainstream as you can possibly get.

Whether it’s a full-throated defense of abortion up until – and even after – birth, support for providing wages to those “unwilling” to work, or vowing to impeach President Trump, the party has avoided being in line with the majority of the American people like the plague.

Like 5 People

Rather than admitting that the headline-grabbing freshman in Congress such as Reps. Ilhan Omar (D-MN), Rashida Tlaib (D-MI), and Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) are a problem, Pelosi dismissed them as nothing more than a minor annoyance.

“You have these wings – AOC, and her group on one side …” Lesley said.

“That’s like five people,” Pelosi shot back.

Pelosi went on to say that Democrats mostly “reject[s] socialism as an economic system.”

“If people have that view, that’s their view,” she said. “That is not the view of the Democratic Party.”

Continues to Jab Ocasio-Cortez

Following comments from President Trump in which he mocked Democrats for being ‘petrified’ of the ’29-year-old, young bartender’ who is driving them off a cliff with her unpopular ideas, Pelosi has been consistently taking shots at Ocasio-Cortez.

Most recently, she mocked Ocasio-Cortez for being a Twitter queen while noting that it’s her role in whipping up votes in Congress that actually counts.

Earlier this year Pelosi mocked the crown jewel of Ocasio-Cortez’ radical environmental platform as being her little “Green Dream.”

“The green dream or whatever they call it, nobody knows what it is, but they’re for it right?” Pelosi scoffed.

Question is – does she genuinely despise the radicals in her party, particularly the New York socialist, or is she simply trying to prove to Trump that she doesn’t fear them?
