Speaker of the House Paul Ryan is set to step away from that role in January 2019, announcing he will not seek reelection and leaving the role of Speaker after serving his full term. (RELATED: Congressman Hints That Paul Ryan Will Resign – Here’s Who His Replacement Might Be).

Conservatives aren’t simply sitting around and waiting for that date to roll around. (RELATED: Top 5 Possible Paul Ryan Replacements).

A coalition of over 100 conservative voices has penned a letter to their chosen replacement, urging him to seize the role as Ryan’s replacement.

They want a true conservative who will do what President Trump has long sought to do – drain the swamp.

“There must be a real race for Speaker of the House. Now. No backroom deals. A real race, starting this spring, to make every incumbent and candidate commit on the record, as a campaign issue, whether they’ll vote to save the Swamp or drain it,” the letter demands.

Addressing their chosen replacement, the letter reads “America needs you to declare yourself as a candidate for Speaker at once. We write to you on behalf of millions of Americans who want Congress to Drain the Swamp.”

Who is the man that can do what Ryan was never able to accomplish? Who will fight for the Trump agenda and drain the swamp?

House Freedom Caucus co-founder Rep. Jim Jordan of Ohio.

This letter isn’t without some basis in reality. Jordan has already expressed interest in running for the position of Speaker of the House.

“There is no speaker’s race right now. Paul Ryan is the speaker,” Jordan told reporters in April. “If and when there is, I’ve been urged by colleagues to consider that and I am definitely open to that. Right now though the focus has got to be on the next six months, us keeping the majority.”

The letter, though, seeks to get him active in attaining that role as quickly as possible. Other swamp dwellers won’t wait to seize the role, why should he?

Meanwhile, Rep. Paul Gosar (R-AZ) wants to see the switch now, rather than later, publicly saying as much earlier this week.

“There’s a movement of people that are backing Jim Jordan from the Freedom Caucus,” Gosar said. “He would be a great person to get back to having leadership for change and well-statute reform. That’s how you look at this: it’s got to be somebody that is going to bring back good process which brings back good policy which builds good politics. This is problematic.”

Jordan is well liked among fiscal hawks and outside conservative groups. And he’s more ideologically aligned to President Trump than other possible replacements for Ryan, Rep. Kevin McCarthy or Rep. Steve Scalise.

Should Jordan jump into the race, it’s clear many conservatives will support his candidacy.
