Oprah Winfrey’s Home Affected By California Mudslides

Just a few days ago, Oprah Winfrey was riding high when NBC declared her the next president of the United States. But on Wednesday, Oprah revealed that her 65-acre Santa Barbara estate is just one of many affected by the deadly flash floods and mudslides that ravaged the Montecito area in Southern California.

Oprah shared a video montage on Instagram surveying the damage. “What a day! Praying for our community again in Santa Barbara. Woke up to this blazing gas fire. then swipe left to see how deep the mud is in my backyard. Helicopters rescuing my neighbors. Looking for missing persons. 13 lives lost. #Mudslides,” she wrote in the caption.

In the videos, you can see the flames of a fire that started thanks to a gas leak, as well as the mud filling Oprah’s backyard. As she walks through the mud in rain boots, it’s apparent that it comes up to at least her mid-calf.

At least 17 people have been killed and 25 people injured in the mudslides caused by torrential overnight rains, just one month after the wildfire that torched the same Southern California region. Montecito was particularly hard hit: about a third of the rain that has fallen in the last 24 hours in happened in just five minutes, according to the National Weather Service. Crews have rescued hundreds of people, many of whom had to be rescued by air. There are 17 people who remain missing.

It’s horrible what’s happened to to Southern California in the last few months, and all the credit is due to the first responders who have done all they can to limit the loss of life.

Share this if you’re praying for Southern California!
