Oprah Winfrey, the self-made superstar of daytime television, was the Democrats’ best chance of beating Donald Trump in 2020. Following her impassioned Golden Globes speech, speculation ran high that Oprah was, in fact, going to follow in Donald Trump’s footsteps and take a shot at the presidency. It didn’t matter that she later denied any consideration of running through a spokesperson – liberals were foaming at the mouth at the prospect of Oprah 2020.
Well, it looks like any and all speculation of a future Oprah run is going to be put to bed. She isn’t going to run. It’s now official. The news comes via Axios:
Oprah Winfrey’s speech at the Golden Globes instantly made waves across America, sparking a rush of enthusiasm for her to pursue a presidential bid. But in a newly released InStyle interview, which took place just three weeks before the awards ceremony, Oprah said a 2020 run isn’t in the cards:
“I’ve always felt very secure and confident with myself in knowing what I could do and what I could not. And so it’s not something that interests me. I don’t have the DNA for it.”
Well, there you have it. It looks like Democrats won’t be “with her” come 2020, and will have to settle on a doddering old man screaming Marxist slogans at clouds, or a guy with made-up friends who enjoys haranguing women. Or they can rally behind a woman who, just two years ago, palled around with serial sexual harasser Bill Clinton.
Choices, choices, choices!
And, of course, there is the inconvenient business of Oprah being a good friend to Harvey Weinstein, the Hollywood mogul outed for being a lecherous creep who preyed on vulnerable women.
So, yeah, maybe she wouldn’t make a good candidate to take on Trump in the future.
