On Veterans Day, Trump Should Cement His Legacy As The President Who Ended America’s Longest War

Veterans Day is a time to honor the brave men and women who served the United States in the armed forces.

One of the best ways we could honor them today is to end the “endless war” in Afghanistan that President Donald Trump has vowed to draw to a close.

Trump Could ‘Cement His Legacy As The Man Who Ended Our Nation’s Longest War’

Iraq War veteran Dan Caldwell made this case at The American Conservative on Wednesday.

Caldwell wrote, “Between now and Inauguration Day 2021, there will undoubtedly be an effort by the Trump administration to lock in as many policy victories as possible through executive action…”

“On foreign policy in particular, President Donald Trump has the opportunity to use his remaining time in office to make a lasting, positive impact on our country by closing the door on our two decade-long war in Afghanistan,” he noted.

Caldwell then said, “Specifically, Trump should issue orders to conduct a full withdrawal of U.S. military forces from Afghanistan by January 20.”

“This would end America’s unnecessary military presence and cement his legacy as the man who ended our nation’s longest war,” he added.

If Trump did this, he could go down in history as the man who definitively ended the longest war in U.S. history.

He has never been shy about denouncing America’s disastrous wars.

Trump Smashed The Bush Family Dynasty And Their Hawkish Foreign Policy

This move would also better cement Trump’s reset on Republican foreign policy. The last Republican president, George W. Bush, was one of the most disastrous of the modern era due largely to his foreign policy.

Trump ended that awful Republican legacy. Now, he could double down on this.

As Trump campaign Senior Adviser Steve Cortes tweeted on Wednesday, “I’m so proud of Pres Trump for smashing the Bush family political dynasty. The damage they did to this country with endless wars was incalculable.”

President Trump tweeted on October 30, “Joe Biden spent the last 47 years outsourcing your jobs, opening your borders, and sacrificing American blood and treasure in endless foreign wars.”

A President Biden Would Stay In Afghanistan Indefinitely

Does anyone really expect a President Joe Biden to change after 47 years in politics? How many new wars would he get American into?

Just as important – will a President Biden get us out of any U.S. wars abroad, including Afghanistan?

The answer is no. He knows it. The American people know it.

Donald Trump knows it.

No matter who enters the White House as the president on January 20th, it is time to finally and fully end America’s longest war in Afghanistan.

It would be a perfect way to commemorate this Veterans Day and the enduring legacy of President Donald J. Trump.
