Obama’s National Security Advisor Has Endorsed Trump’s Soleimani Strike

A Marine's Marine who tells it like it is.

President Obama’s former National Security Advisor is applauding President Trump’s move to kill Qasem Soleimani.

The remarks come in the wake of multiple politicos taking various positions on whether the strike was good, bad, or good at the wrong time.

But like the famed Marine General James Mattis, who recently served as Secretary of Defense, another Marine general (also named James) brought a level headed mind to a critical component of government.

This general who served as President Obama’s National Security Advisor from 2009 to 2010, and did his duty as he saw it, was Marine General James Jones.

Jones, 76, was and is a Marine’s Marine. In his career, he commanded NATO, the U.S. European Command, and the Corps itself.

But, contrary to the probable view of his former boss, Jones approves of the Trump strike against Qassem Soleimani, as reports The Washington Examiner.

Less than a week ago Jones told the Atlantic Council Global Energy Forum in Abu Dhabi, “What the administration did in the Soleimani case is absolutely correct. This was a powerful step. We’ll see where it goes…It’s a complicated region, but I think history will say that this was the right thing to do.”

This view surely got under some politicians’ skin.

He continued, “It’s clear that the regime in Iran has had a very bad couple of weeks. And one of the things that people don’t talk about too much is the degree of unrest that there is in the country, which I think is significant…So, you take the removal of Soleimani, you take the accidental downing of the civilian aircraft coupled with the amount of popular unrest — the needle toward a possible collapse of a regime has to be something that people think about. It’s probably not politically correct to talk about it, but you have to think about it.”

Good analysis from a sharp Marine.

Military generals such as Jones, Mattis, John Kelly, and H.R. McMaster have all been noted to bring a calm, while firm, demeanor to presidential administrations.

While Jones wasn’t part of the current aggressive administration, he served in a leading defense seat during a time where a host of internationally problematic situations arose.

General Jones now spends his retirement as a valued consultant in the defense and business communities.
