FLASHBACK: Obama Brags About Removing All Syrian Chemical Weapons

Oh, how the times are changing.

Back in 2014, Obama’s administration championed a non-existent achievement of their intervention in Syria: the elimination of chemical weapons in the country. And who was to thank for helping us achieve that goal? None other than Russia.

“We struck a deal where we got a hundred percent of the chemical weapons out,” John Kerry said on “Meet the Press.” “When we had to get chemical weapons out of Syria, Russia was the cooperating party that helped to make that happen, and without them, it probably wouldn’t have happened”

Kerry was referring to Bashar al-Assad’s declared stockpiles of chemical weapons, which, under a 2013 deal struck by the Obama administration following a sarin nerve gas attack, were supposed to have been gone (or face a strike from US forces).

Obama also cited the alleged accomplishment.

The most obvious flaw in the “deal” was that Assad simply did not declare all his chemical weapons — a reality that Kerry even acknowledged publicly. Second, not all forms of chemical weapons were part of the deal, such as chlorine gas.

Earlier this week, there was a chemical weapons attack on Douma, a rebel-controlled town in Eastern Ghouta, Syria. The attack killed dozens of people and is currently being blamed on the Assad regime.

Trump responded and blamed Assad and Putin for the attack.

This is hardly the first chemical attack since 2014, either. Back in 2017, there was a chemical attack in Khan Shaykhun, Syria, in which over 100 were killed, and 500 injured. After that attack, Trump told reporters “When you kill innocent children, innocent babies, babies, little babies, with a chemical gas that is so lethal—people were shocked to hear what gas it was. That crosses many, many lines, beyond a red line, many, many lines.”

In response to that attack, Trump launched $100 million worth of Tomahawk cruise missiles at an airbase of the Syrian army.

It’s not yet known how Trump will retaliate to this chemical attack.
