Last week, President Obama encouraged Iran to seize the “historic opportunity” being offered by the P5+1 group regarding Iran’s nuclear program. The Obama Administration has gotten push back from Capitol Hill and the American public on these negotiations which he wants complete by the end of March.
Kerry has hailed progress on the nuclear talks, but Iran’s Supreme leader isn’t as conciliatory. Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has chimed in by wishing death to America.
“Of course yes, death to America, because America is the original source of this pressure. They insist on putting pressure on our dear people’s economy,” he said, referring to economic sanctions aimed at halting Iran’s nuclear program. “What is their goal? Their goal is to put the people against the system,” he said. “The politics of America is to create insecurity,” he added, referring both to US pressure on Iran and elsewhere in the region.”
Israeli Intelligence Minister Yuval Steinitz went to France to discuss the negotiations as France has expressed suspicion to the handling of situation. France’s Ambassador to the United States said that President Obama’s rush to have a deal with Iran by March 31 is a “bad tactic” and counterproductive and dangerous. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called it a bad deal.
“That deal will not prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons,” he said in a speech to a joint session of Congress. “It would all but guarantee that Iran gets those weapons, lots of them.”
The Ayatollah Khamenei does not shy away from his wishes of death to the United States and Israel. He even leads these chants after prayers.
