College Students Can’t Explain Why Obama Deserved Nobel But Trump Doesn’t

Obama Nobel Prize

Former President Barack Obama won the Nobel Peace Prize just months after taking office before the man even had the chance to alter America’s foreign policy in any meaningful way. Why was he given the prize? Everyone and their mother knew the real reason; as a prize for not being George W. Bush.

By the end of his presidency, even Obama was joking about it. During a conversation with comedian Stephen Colbert in October of 2016, Obama was asked to list any other relevant awards or qualifications.  Obama replied: “I have almost 30 honorary degrees and I did get the Nobel Peace Prize.

“Really, what was that for?” enquired Colbert.

“To be honest, I still don’t know,” Obama replied jokingly.

Even he knows it’s funny because it’s true.

If Obama can win a Nobel for doing nothing, why can’t Trump for his role in the recent change in attitude we’ve seen from North Korea? South Korea’s own President himself has said that he believes that Trump deserves a Nobel for his efforts.

Campus Reform set out to ask college students that very question – and none seemed to think that Trump was deserving of one. Obama on the other hand? That was a different story.

“Hell, no; that’s a joke. What has he done for peace?” offered one student, while another added, “No. I feel like he just thinks that he deserves many awards.”
“It’s just too good of a prize for him to have credit for,” declared a particularly enthusiastic student.

They unanimously agreed that Obama deserved his Nobel Peace prize though. Just wait till you hear their reasons…

In addition to Barack Obama, Jimmy Carter, Theodore Roosevelt, and Woodrow Wilson have also won the Nobel Peace Prize. Do you think Trump deserves to be the fifth? Let us know in the comments section below!
