NYC Terrorist Entered US Through Diversity Visa Program Trump Wants to End

The Manhattan terror suspect who mowed down 8 innocent Americans reportedly entered the United States through a visa program President Trump is trying to end.

ABC reports that Sayfullo Saipov, a 29-year-old Uzbekistan native, was awarded a permanent resident visa in 2010 under the Diversity Immigrant Program. The program offers a lottery for people from countries with a lesser number of immigrants in America.

In 2005, the House of Representatives approved an amendment to abolish the program, which opponents said ‘was susceptible to fraud and was a way for terrorists to enter the country.’ The Senate never passed the amendment.

Congress has made several further attempts to end the program since 2007, but have failed.

Conservative columnist Michelle Malkin has called for an end to the program numerous times over the last several years. She described its continuation as being “stuck on stupid” and an example of politicians being “blinded by deadly diversity worship.”

Newsweek even gave a tip of the cap to President Trump, saying he “has tried to end (the visa program) as part of his crackdown on immigration.”

On October 8th, the President released a letter to House and Senate leaders calling for further reforms to immigration principles and policies.

Under a section titled ‘merit-based immigration system’ was a simple call to “Eliminate the ‘Diversity Visa Lottery.’

“Every year, through the “diversity visa” lottery, the United States awards 50,000 green cards at random to foreign nationals, many of whom have absolutely no ties to the United States, no special skills, and limited education,” a White House press release states.

Trump understandably reiterated the need for immigration reforms in light of the terror attack in Manhattan.

He railed against the program even further this morning, specifically pointing a finger at Democrats such as Chuck Schumer.

In 2011, Center for Immigration Studies National Security Policy Director Janice Kephart testified before Congress that, “The program is a national security vulnerability and has been used by terrorists and organized criminals to not only enter the United States but to bring others in as well.”

Now, Trump’s, Kephart’s, and Congress’s multiple concerns over the years have come to fruition in the form of a deadly terror attack in New York City.
