Not Fair to Blame the President for Shootings by ‘Sick, Sick People,’ Declares Acting White House Chief of Staff

Mick Mulvaney shared his perspective on Sunday on ABC's 'This Week'

Addressing the charges on Sunday morning from some on the Left that past rhetoric from President Donald Trump is somehow responsible for two heinous acts of violence and terror against innocent American citizens this weekend, acting White House chief of staff Mick Mulvaney spoke up in defense of the commander-in-chief.

“This is a serious problem, no question about it,” said Mulvaney on ABC’s “This Week” about the mass shootings.

“But these are sick, sick people and the president knows it,” he added. “But I don’t think it’s fair to lay this at the feet of the president.”

Shortly after Saturday morning’s shooting in El Paso, Texas — in which 20 people were killed and dozens more were wounded inside a Walmart at a mall — Trump ordered Attorney General William Barr “to find out what we could do to prevent this type of thing from happening, what we could do to send a message to the sick people who would do this type of thing,” Mulvaney added.

Mulvaney also mentioned the Trump administration’s moves on firearms, as Fox News also pointed out.

The White House enacted a ban on bump stocks, as well as a stronger background check system, he pointed out.

Law enforcement members then shot to death that gunman before he could harm any more people.

He also defended Trump against claims that the president’s sometimes tough words encouraged white nationalists and other racist groups to take up arms against fellow citizens.

“This was a sick person. The shooter in Dayton was a sick person. No politician is to blame for that,” insisted Mulvaney. “The people responsible were the ones that pulled the trigger. We need to figure out how to create less of those people as a society and not [talk about] who gets blamed going into the next election.”

A man armed with a rifle brutally opened fire in an El Paso shopping area while as many as 3,000 people were shopping during a busy back-to-school shopping day.

Less than 24 hours later, there was another mass shooting, this one in Dayton, Ohio.

Authorities there said a gunman, in the early morning hours of Sunday, killed nine people — and that law enforcement members then shot to death that gunman before he could harm any more people.

Most responsible news outlets are not showing the two gunmen’s faces nor mentioning their names — as these individuals likely sought an odd sort of twisted glory for what they did, which is abhorrent.

Less than a week ago, a 19-year-old gunman killed three people and injured more than a dozen others at the popular Gilroy Garlic Festival in California. He then took his own life with a gun, police said.
