A new poll shows that a significant majority of American voters say that Russian President Vladimir Putin would not have invaded Ukraine if former President Donald Trump still occupied the White House.
The poll was a Harvard Center for American Political Studies (CAPS)-Harris Poll survey, according to The Hill.
Harvard-Harris poll: 62% of Americans don’t believe Putin would have invaded Ukraine if Trump was still president, 59% of Americans believe Putin invaded Ukraine because he believed Joe Biden was weak. I agree with both majorities here: https://t.co/GpBHvCwdTu

Poll: ’62 percent of those polled believed Putin would not be moving against Ukraine if Trump had been president’
The Hill reported that the survey found that “62 percent of those polled believed Putin would not be moving against Ukraine if Trump had been president. When looking strictly at the answers of Democrats and Republicans, 85 percent of Republicans and 38 percent of Democrats answered this way.”
A majority also said they believed Putin viewed Biden as weak, making his invasion of Ukraine more likely.
The Hill reported, “A majority of Americans polled — 59 percent — also said they believed that the Russian president moved on Ukraine because Putin saw weakness in President Biden, while 41 percent said that it was not a factor in Putin’s decision to invade Ukraine.”

RELATED: Trump Responds To Putin’s Attack On Ukraine: This Never Would Have Happened if I Were President
New Poll Latest In A String Of Surveys Showing Low Approval Ratings For Biden
Trump himself has made the same argument. Last week, the former President said in an interview,
This would never have happened if we were there. But he did. Chuck Todd asked that question. How come there was none of this happening during the Trump administration? I knew Putin very well. I got along with him great. He liked me. I liked him. I mean, you know, he’s a tough cookie, got a lot of the great charm and a lot of pride. But the way he — and he loves his country, you know? He loves his country. He’s acting a little differently I think now.
This new survey comes in the wake of numerous polls showing low approval ratings for the Biden administration on every issue imaginable – COVID-19 pandemic, a botched Afghanistan withdrawal inflation, Democratic infighting and now the invasion of Ukraine.
The Harvard CAPS-Harris Poll survey was conducted between Feb. 23 and Feb. 24.
