New Poll Shows That Five 2020 Democrats Would Win Against Trump If the Election Were Held Today

A new poll shows that top 2020 Democrat presidential candidates would win against President Donald Trump if the election were held today.

The Quinnipiac University poll showed former Vice President Joe Biden getting 54 percent running against Trump, with the President only garnering 38 percent.

Who Else Does This New Poll Say Could Beat Trump?

Four other leading Democrats would also beat Trump.

Matched up against Bernie Sanders, the Vermont Senator would get 53 percent against Trump’s 39 percent. Elizabeth Warren would take 52 percent and Trump only 40 percent. Kamala Harris would best Trump, 51- 40 percent. Pete Buttigieg would defeat Trump, 49 percent to 40 percent.

“Looking at all of the matchups, President Trump is stuck between 38 and 40 percent of the vote,” Quinnipiac University notes of the poll findings. “These low numbers may partly be explained by a lack of support among white women, a key voting bloc that voted for Trump in the 2016 election.”

“Today, white women go for the Democratic candidate by double digits in every scenario” the report continues. “Though it is a long 14 months until Election Day, Trump’s vulnerability among this important voting group does not bode well for him.”

Quinnipiac University Polling Analyst Mary Snow said, “In hypothetical matchups between President Trump and the top five Democratic presidential candidates, one key number is 40. It’s the ceiling of support for Trump, no matter the candidate. It hovers close to his job approval rating, which has stayed in a tight range since being elected.”

Job Performance

Other bad news for Trump centers on his performance rating. One month ago, Quinnipiac found that 54 percent disapproved of the job Trump has done as president, with 40 percent approving.

Now? 56 percent disapprove and only 38 percent approve.

On the economy, poll results showed that 37 percent of voters think the economy is declining while just 31 percent said it is improving.

“This compares to a June 11, 2019 poll in which 23 percent of voters said that the national economy is getting worse, 39 percent said it is getting better, and 37 percent said it is staying the same,” Quinnipiac reported about its poll.

How Much Faith Should We Put in This Poll?

The survey was taken from August 21-26 questioning 1,422 self-identified registered voters nationwide with a margin of error of plus or minus 3.1 percentage points.

A lot can happen between now and the election, but these numbers do not look good for Donald Trump right now, and this isn’t the first poll to reflect poorly for the President.

Then again, the polls aren’t always right!
