New Biden Admin Guidelines: Illegal Immigrants Shouldn’t Be Deported ‘Solely’ For Being Undocumented

Psaki Blames Trump For How Biden Has Dealt With The Pandemic

On Thursday, new guidelines were introduced by the Biden administration that stated that illegal immigrants shouldn’t be deported solely on that basis

Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas issued a statement that his agency’s focus is apprehending, detaining, and deporting illegal immigrants who might pose threats.

New Rules Go In Effect Next Month

Mayorkas said, “We are guided by the knowledge that there are individuals in our country who have been here for generations and contributed to our country’s well-being, including those who have been on the frontline in the battle against COVID, lead congregations of faith, and teach our children.”

“As we strive to provide them with a path to status, we will not work in conflict by spending resources seeking to remove those who do not pose a threat and, in fact, make our Nation stronger.” he added.

In other words, we’re looking at de fact amnesty for some individuals who may have been in the country illegally for some time.

This new rules goes into effect at the end of November.

What might constitute a threat? The guidelines indicate that undocumented immigrants caught at the border trying to unlawfully enter the U.S. would be considered a threat to border security. Even under the new guidelines, they would be deported.

Also included in possible deportation is anyone who illegally entered the U.S. after Nov. 1, 2020.

On the other end of the spectrum, ABC News reports that there are also mitigating factors that would decrease someone’s chances of being deported: being old, being young, or being a victim of crime.

These new rules come on the heels of a major crisis at the border, in which tens of thousands of Haitian illegal immigrants cross the border into Del Rio, Texas.

Immigration Activists Say They Will Keep An Eye On The New Guidelines

Some immigration activists said they will be watching how the guidelines are implemented closely.

Jacinta Gonzalez, senior campaign organizer at Mijente, told reporters, “So much of what we’re going to be watching is going to be in the next couple of months, in terms of how this is going to be implemented in local field offices, and what type of accountability measures are going to be put in place.”
