How do you know you’ve just delivered a great, unifying, move-the-country-forward kind of speech?
Answer – When even the people that oppose your presidency give you a thumbs up!
That’s exactly what President Trump delivered last night.
A poll immediately taken after Trump’s speech to a joint session of Congress shows an overwhelming majority of Americans were filled with optimism after hearing the President’s words.
57% of Americans said they found Trump’s speech to be very positive, while another 21% rated it somewhat positive.
That’s 78% of the American people who walked away with a more optimistic view of the President’s vision.

President Donald Trump’s first address to Congress received largely positive reviews from viewers, with 57% who tuned in saying they had a very positive reaction to the speech, according to a new CNN/ORC poll of speech-watchers.
Nearly 7-in-10 who watched said the President’s proposed policies would move the country in the right direction and almost two-thirds said the president has the right priorities for the country. Overall, about 7-in-10 said the speech made them feel more optimistic about the direction of the country.
Those numbers trump (pun totally intended) the reviews for Obama’s last State of the Union speech.
To recap, that’s a score of 57-53% who reacted in a very positive manner, and 78-73% who reacted at least somewhat positively. In favor of Trump, Not Obama, “the greatest orator of our time,” as the media would have you believe.
What’s more, President Trump seems to have converted some of his Democrat non-supporters with one fantastically delivered speech.
Of the respondents who lean Democrat, Trump received positive reviews from 50%. Overall, 53% of non-supporters of the President viewed his speech positively, while 46% viewed it negatively.
Incredible! You know you’ve hit a home run when people who do not support you or your policies are willing to admit they walked away with a positive outlook after your speech.
