NBC anchor Chuck Todd took issue with Ron DeSantis’ plan for Florida schools to teach the perils of Communism, suggesting he was “politicizing” an ideology that has killed millions.

During a weekend appearance in Las Vegas, the Florida governor touted that his state was the first in the country to establish November 10th as the day when schools would teach students at all grade levels about the dangers of communism.

“We’re also the first state in the country to establish every November 10, the day in our schools is earmarked to teach our students at all grade levels about the evils of communist regimes throughout history we’re going to tell the truth about Marxism and Leninism,” he announced.

DeSantis signed a bill last May designating the lesson on Communism – a minimum of 45 minutes – as mandatory, noting the instruction would center around Joseph Stalin, Mao Zedong and Fidel Castro, as well as “poverty, starvation, migration, systemic lethal violence, and suppression of speech” endured under their leadership.

Florida, of course, has a large Cuban population that often risks their lives to flee the Communist regime.

Chuck Todd Not Happy With DeSantis Having Schools Teach About Communism

NBC’s Chuck Todd took issue with DeSantis having Florida schools teach about the evils of communism and scoffed at the notion that such a topic would appeal to swing voters.

“I don’t know if DeSantis is going to be talking to swing voters, here’s like one of the things he said in Vegas yesterday take a listen to this,” he said prior to playing a clip of the aforementioned comments.

Turning to panelist Jonathan Martin of Politico, Todd bemoaned the news.

“You know, Jonathan, it’s sort of like, look, being a Floridian, I sort of know what he’s trying to play there and all of that,” Todd said.

“I went to Florida public schools we were taught this. It was called history,” he continued. “It just seems like a weird politicizing—you know he’s going out of his way to politicize something.”

Is he under the impression that teaching about Communism somehow isn’t history?

Communism Has Killed Millions

Historian Lee Edwards has previously noted that drawing the ire of those who wish to suppress knowledge of the dangers of Communism means you’re doing the right thing.

“When President George W. Bush … on June 12, 2007, dedicated a U.S. memorial in Washington, D.C., to the more than 100 million victims of communism, both the Chinese communists and the Russian communists immediately attacked the president and the Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation,” Edwards wrote.

“You know you’re doing the right thing when your enemies condemn you.”

The American media, the enemy of the people, lashing out at the teachings of Communism is confirmation that DeSantis is taking the right path.

A political ideology that has resulted in countless dead seems relevant anywhere in a freedom-loving nation, let alone in a state with a large Cuban-American population.
