Mueller Almost Done With Trump Probe, But Could Hold Off On Charges

FBI Special Counsel Robert Mueller is nearly done with his obstruction probe of Donald Trump, but there’s a very sneaky reason he could hold off on bringing any charges against the President.

In short, it’s because he wants more people to talk.

As reported by Bloomberg Politics, Mueller could set the obstruction case aside in order to finish investigating alleged Russian collusion and the hacking of Democrats. If Mueller were to bring obstruction charges early, it could encourage witnesses to be “less cooperative” in other parts of the probe. Three key witnesses Mueller hopes to interview include Trump, Donald Trump Jr., and Ivanka Trump. For the President’s part, on Sunday Trump spokesperson Raj Shah told ABC News that Trump “intends to” meet with Mueller for an interview under oath.

However, Mueller is likely screwed no matter what he does. Filing charges against Trump or his family would likely result in the President firing him. On the other hand, publicly clearing Trump of charges would only add fuel to the fire that the probe is a total sham.

Then again, Trump’s efforts to remove Mueller as a special counsel are actually one of the main parts of his investigation, according to sources. Additionally, he’s looking into “the rainy weekend that Trump and his top aides spent at the Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, New Jersey, shortly before Comey was fired in May,” as well as “the creation of a misleading statement about Trump Jr.’s June 2016 meeting with a Russian attorney who promised damaging information about Hillary Clinton.”

According to Trump’s lawyers, Mueller has interviewed more than four dozen White House and campaign aides and requested more than 1.4 million pages of documents.
