MSNBC Claims Gov. Rick Scott Ignored Florida Victims While He Was at a Student’s Funeral

Mark Twain is supposed to have said that a “lie can travel half way around the world while the truth is putting on its shoes,” and thanks to the internet, we see proof of that everyday.

Here’s the usual rundown on social media: a liberal posts a sensationalist claim or statistic, which then goes viral, only to later be corrected. Ten times out of ten, however, those corrections don’t receive one iota of the attention the falsehood received.

Take the case of MSNBC’s Ali Velshi, who reported that students are in the waiting area of FL Gov. Rick Scott’s office to advocate for gun control, but Scott supposedly refused to meet with them.

As it turned out, Gov. Scott was not ignoring those students and their pleas for gun control – he wasn’t in his office at all, because he was out attending one of the funerals of the students slain in the Valentine’s Day school shooting.

Someone pointed that out to Ali, who clarified that was the case. His original tweet got over 7,000 retweets and 20,000 favorites, while the half-assed correction received less than 20 and 70, respectively.

None of that prevented the lie from being repeated on air, either.

The students asked “Where’s Rick Scott?” and chanted “shame on you” to the man who was busy mourning one of their own.

This sad situation is just another example of media bias at work. There was no need for that MSNBC reporter to tweet what he did without the requisite information. It’s plain to see he did it to demonize the governor, and paint Republicans as heartless fools who don’t give a lick about the lives of children.
