More Justin Trudeau Blackface Images And Video Emerge Since His Apology

Not even 24 hours since Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau apologized for a recently revealed photo of himself wearing brownface at a party in 2001, two more examples of him in blackface have emerged.

The first photo published by Time showed Trudeau portraying a character from the animated film Aladdin wearing brown makeup and a turban during an “Arabian Nights”–themed party, when Trudeau was 29.

‘I regret it deeply’

He apologized for it on Wednesday.

“I regret it deeply and I’m deeply sorry that I did that,” Trudeau told reporters after the image came to light. “It was something I didn’t think was racist at the time, and now I know it was racist.”

When reporters inquired if there were any more similar photos in existence of the Prime Minister wearing offensive makeup, he admitted also wore blackface during a high school talent show for a performance of the Jamaican song “Day-O.”

‘Day-O’ Photo Emerges

Canadian journalist Robert Fife tweeted a photo of Trudeau in the “Day-O” costume later that night, which showed the Canadian head with dark makeup and an afro wig.

A video of Trudeau wearing blackface emerged Thursday morning with Canadian news station Global News being the first to publish. Trudeau can be seen appearing to wear dark face makeup in the video, putting his his hands above his head and sticking his tongue out.

A Liberal party spokesperson has confirmed that Trudeau is the man in the video from the early 1990s.

While these blackface controversies have put the spotlight on Trudeau in a negative way unlike anything else in his political career, he was previously criticized for wearing costumes that some have called cultural appropriation. One example of this is the traditional Indian garb he wore along with his family in 2018 during an official visit.

Will Trudeau Get the Same Treatment as Virginia Governor Ralph Northam?

Trudeau has taken responsibility for his actions in the past and said on Wednesday he knows today that his costume and makeup choices were unacceptable.

“I’ve always — and you know this — been more enthusiastic about costumes than is sometimes appropriate, but these are the situations that I regret deeply,” he admitted.

Earlier this year, many Democrats and liberal activists demanded that Virginia Governor Ralph Northam resign after it was discovered he had appeared in blackface in college.

Will anyone on the Left – in Canada or anywhere else – demand the same of Justin Trudeau?
