Dr. Alveda King, niece of Martin Luther King Jr., reacted to the horrific Charleston church massacre during the Fox News broadcast of “America’s New Headquarters” on Saturday.
Dr. King implored that forgiveness will be key as both the community and nation grieve and begin the process of healing.
“We have to pray for peace, work to have justice and begin to change the hearts of the people.”
“It’s going to take us working through our own human spirits, connecting to the divine and with God directing and guiding us. And that’s how we can change the heart of the nation,” King said.
Dr. Alveda King’s words should serve as a pillar of reason and love. A true representation of the gospel of racial healing. Hatred only breeds more hatred. All Americans, regardless of the color of their skin, need to condemn this horrible act together in universal respect for each other and not sow more seeds of racial hatred.
We must all do our part to ensure messages like these – and not the venom spewed by the likes of Rev. Al Sharpton – reverberate through social media and our communities.
