Mitt Romney Ready to Fight – In the Boxing Ring

Former Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney has apparently announced he is ready to do battle once more. Only this time it will be in a boxing ring.

Romney will box a charity match against former heavyweight champion, Evander Holyfield. The match will take place in Salt Lake City on May 15th, and will raise money for Charity Vision, an organization that provides medical care for low-income children who suffer from vision ailments.

Via The Hill (H/T Gateway Pundit):

Mitt Romney has reportedly signed on to box former heavyweight champion Evander Holyfield.

The two will spar to raise money for Charity Vision, a Salt Lake City organization that gives medical care and surgeries for needy children with vision disorders, according to the Salt Lake Tribune.

“It will either be a very short fight, or I will be knocked unconscious,” Romney, 68, told the paper.

“It won’t be much of a fight. We’ll both suit up and get in the ring and spar around a little bit.”

The paper reports that the fundraiser will woo corporate sponsors for between $25,000 and $250,000. The pair will fight in May in Salt Lake City, along with a full card of more competitive matches.

“We just thought it would be a lot better to provide this kind of entertainment rather than just have dinner and listen to speakers,” Romney said.

Romney may be selling himself a bit short, however. In 2010, Romney got into an altercation that forever enhanced his street cred, or destroyed it depending on how seriously you take his opponent.

While the politician’s spokesman claimed that Romney had been assaulted by a hostile passenger, the rapper (whose real name is Skyler Gordy) claimed he was actually the victim of assault. Gordy, a member of the group LMFAO said, “He put a condor grip on me – what am I supposed to do?” His band-mate chimed in with, “that’s like a Vulcan grip.”

If Romney manages to pull out the “Vulacn grip” on Holyfield, will it be lights out for the champ? Granted, facing a championship boxer who has defeated the likes of Mike Tyson is vastly different than facing a rapper who is nerdy enough to be familiar with Star Trek terminology.

In the squared circle though, anything can happen.

We’ll give Romney at least a 47% chance of winning the bout.

Who do you think will win the charity match? Holyfield or Romney?

  • As Romney was too timid to draw verbal blood in his confrontations with badly outmatched and unaccomplished Obama, this "fight" against Holyfield does not bode well.
