Fox News Contributor Mercedes Schlapp Joins Trump White House Communications Team

Now that General John Kelly is President Trump’s Chief-of-Staff, he is shaking up the West Wing. And it was just announced that he made his first high-profile appointment to the Trump Administration.

Kelly hired well-known Fox News personality Mercedes Schlapp for the newly redesigned White House communications team. Schlapp will serve as the Director of Strategic Communications. She will report to 28-year-old Hope Hicks, Trump’s new communications director.

Schlapp is known in Republican circles as a consultant and is the wife of Matt Schlapp, the chairman of the American Conservative Union (ACU), which hosts the annual Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Washington, D.C., every year.

Schlapp appears regularly on Fox News and is respected by many conservatives.

Also among those appointed to new White House jobs this week are Raj Shah, the former Deputy Communications Director who was named Principal Deputy Press Secretary, and Steven Cheung, the former Assistant Communications director who is now Trump’s Director of Strategic Response.
