Last month, The Political Insider reported on Melania Trump’s early legal victory against a left-wing blogger who falsely claimed that the First Lady used to be an escort in her younger years.
The Maryland blogger was sued for libel by Mrs. Trump, and last month a Montgomery County judge ruled in favor of the First Lady, allowing the lawsuit to continue, rather than dismiss the suit as the blogger’s lawyer sought.
Well, we can now confirm that the blogger, identified as Webster Tarpley, has agreed to pay Mrs. Trump a “substantial sum” of money in order to settle the lawsuit against him, according to Trump’s attorney Charles Harder.

Last year, on Tarpley’s website, Tarpley.net, he blogged about how there were reports that Melania suffered from a “breakdown” after accusations she plagiarized portions of her speech at the GOP Convention, according to court documents. He also blogged about “rumors” from other sources that Melania once worked as a high-end escort. Tarpley issued a retraction and apologized shortly after publishing the story, but Trump sued anyway. The Daily Mail published a similar story, which has since been retracted, but Melania sued them as well.
Since the settlement was reached, Tarpley has released a statement, admitting the statements made against Mrs. Trump were false:
I posted an article on August 2, 2016 about Melania Trump that was replete with false and defamatory statements about her. I had no legitimate factual basis to make these false statements and I fully retract them. I acknowledge that these false statements were very harmful and hurtful to Mrs. Trump and her family, and therefore I sincerely apologize to Mrs. Trump, her son, her husband and her parents for making these false statements.
While Mrs. Trump has settled her lawsuit with the Maryland blogger, she has refiled a lawsuit against The Daily Mail for defamation after the publication printed the false story.
Since becoming First Lady, Mrs. Trump has begun the process of forming a team aimed at fighting back against left-wing attacks and smears leveled against herself and her family. Several weeks after her husband was elected president, Rosie O’Donnell attacked Barron Trump as “autistic.” The left-wing comedian attacked the Trumps’ young son, posting a video online before eventually issuing an apology and removing the video.
In response to the attack from Ms. O’Donnell, First Lady Melania Trump hired lawyer Charles J. Harder to fight back against the vicious attack.
Kudos to Melania Trump for winning a major battle against a liberal blogger who smeared her integrity during the 2016 campaign. She and her family should not allow the left to attack her and her family with such vicious lies aimed at destroying her.
