Melania Trump Earns Major Legal Victory Against Blogger’s ‘Escort’ Claims

Earlier this week, The Political Insider reported that First Lady Melania Trump was organizing a team of staffers to help her fight back against liberal attacks directed at her and her family.

Now, Mrs. Trump just scored an early legal victory in a lawsuit against a blogger who falsely claimed she worked as a “high-end escort.”

The blogger wrote the outrageous accusations against Mrs. Trump during the 2016 campaign, but few media outlets covered the claims given the lack of evidence behind them. Melania fought back, and a Montgomery County, Maryland judge ruled in favor of the First Lady during the first round of her libel suit.

From Politico:

Montgomery County Circuit Court Judge Sharon Burrell rejected arguments from lawyers for blogger Webster Tarpley to dismiss Trump’s suit for failing to meet the “actual malice” standard for public figures. The judge also turned down Tarpley’s effort to dismiss the suit under a Maryland law aimed at quickly shutting down bad-faith lawsuits intended to intimidate people speaking out on issues of public concern.

“The court finds the plaintiff has stated a claim for defamation,” Burrell ruled after hearing about 40 minutes of arguments on the issue in a Rockville courtroom. “The court believes most people, when they hear the words ‘high-end escort’ that describes a prostitute. There could be no more defamatory statement than to call a woman a prostitute.”

The judge also accused Tarpley’s lawyers of playing “word games” by arguing that his claims that Melania Trump suffered a mental breakdown were not libelous.

President Trump has been vocal in his criticism of members of the liberal media, especially his young son Barron, who has been viciously attacked in recent days. Mrs. Trump has every right to fight back against libel attacks on her character, and hopefully she prevails in her lawsuit.
