In her first statement since violent demonstrations broke out in the nation’s capital last week, First Lady Melania Trump said her heart goes out to all that lost their lives at the Capitol, and condemned in the strongest terms the violence that took place.

On January 6th, peaceful demonstrations by supporters of President Trump turned violent as protesters stormed the Capitol building. Today, the First Lady posted a personal statement to WhiteHouse.gov.

Melania Trump Tries To Bring a Nation Together In Wake Of Capitol Violence

“Most recently, my heart goes out to: Air Force Veteran Ashli Babbitt, Benjamin Philips, Kevin Greeson, Rosanne Boyland, and Capitol Police Officers Brian Sicknick, and Howard Liebengood. I pray for their families comfort and strength during this difficult time.”

Mrs. Trump went on to condemn any and all violence and spoke of the healing that the nation must do. “Our nation must heal in a civil manner. Make no mistake about it, I absolutely condemn the violence that has occurred in our nation’s Capitol. Violence is never acceptable.”

She also talked about the many Americans who have been affected and died from COVID-19. She stated, “All nations have experienced the loss of loved ones, economic pain, and the negetive impacts of isolation.”

Media Attacks Melania Trump

While Melania Trump was attempting to bring the nation together, the Left wasted no time taking to Twitter to hurl vicious attacks against her and her husband.

CNN’s John Harwood described it as a “good-people-on-both-sides letter”. His words seem intended to echo past criticism of her husband in the aftermath of Charlottesville.

Liberal media outlet Mother Jones accused the First Lady of making herself a victim. They further accuse Melania Trump of “deliberately elevating” those at the Capitol to protest the certification of electoral votes making former Vice-President Joe Biden officially President-elect.

New York Times White House Correspondent Maggie Haberman also took a veiled shot the First Lady in her rebuke of those who stormed the Capitol.

Most of the tweets about Mrs. Trump’s statement regarding the riots are not fit for print.

In addition to attacks on social media, CNN quoted the usual anonymous White House source accusing the First Lady of being disinterested in addressing the nation and being “checked out”.

The unnamed source went on to say that Trump, “just isn’t in a place mentally or emotionally anymore where she wants to get involved.”

First Lady Goes On Offense

In her statement, the First Lady also addressed some of the personal attacks, and urged Americans to use this time for healing and resisting the urge to pursue a personal agenda.

“I find it shameful that surrounding these tragic events, there has been salacious gossip, unwarranted personal attacks, and false, misleading accusations on me-from people who are looking to be relevant and have an agenda. This time is solely about healing our country and its citizens. It should not be used for personal gain.”

Mrs. Trump went on to say that, as an American she was, “proud of our freedom to express our viewpoints without persecution.”

Melania Trump stated that it was the honor of her life to serve as First Lady and asked the nation to come together for “healing, grace, understanding, and peace.”
