Earlier this month, we reported that the Alaska Republican Party had censured Senator Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) after she voted to impeach former President Donald Trump, and that they were even planning to run a primary challenger against her.

Now, a Republican primary challenger has officially announced plans to take Murkowski on.

Republican Challenging Murkowski

Kelly Tshibaka, Alaska’s Commissioner of Administration, has announced that she will be challenging Murkowski for her Senate seat.

Fox News reported that she described herself as someone from “a new generation of Alaska conservatives” who as a candidate will portray herself as a candidate who will rebuild Alaska’s economy, defend and rejuvenate small businesses and fight to protect the jobs of Alaskans in the energy industry.

A campaign video for Tshibaka described her as conservative, pro-life, and pro-Second Amendment, with the slogan, “America First. Always.”

Tshibaka Speaks Out

“We know what Washington, D.C. thinks about Alaska: We’re here for their benefit, and we won’t put up much of a fight. After nearly 20 years in D.C., Lisa Murkowski thinks the same way,” Tshibaka said in the video.

“But you know what? Nothing scares the D.C. political insiders more than the thought of a strong, independent Alaskan leader in their ranks,” she added. “One they can’t bully. One they can’t control. One they can’t silence.”

“Lisa Murkowski is so out of touch that she even voted to remove Donald Trump from office, even after he was already gone,” Tshibaka later added.

“I believe in a better future for Alaska. One we can rise up together and rebuild,” she said. “I’m running for the Alaskans who believe government is of the people, by the people, and for the people. The D.C. insiders need to be held accountable to us.”

Trump To Get Involved

This comes after Trump said he would “not be endorsing, under any circumstances, the failed candidate from the great State of Alaska, Lisa Murkowski.”

“She represents her state badly and her country even worse,” Trump said. “I do not know where other people will be next year, but I know where I will be–in Alaska campaigning against a disloyal and very bad Senator.”
