Mark Anthony Conditt – Five Fast Facts About the Austin Bomber

Mark Anthony Conditt

Early this morning, the Austin terrorist bomber was finally stopped. Police used a combination of surveillance video and warrants for Google search history to identify Mark Anthony Conditt. As law enforcement was preparing to capture Conditt, he ended up setting off an explosive, killing himself and injuring another officer.

Here are five fast facts about Conditt and his reign of terror:

  1. Conditt is responsible for two deaths, Anthony Stephan House, father of an 8-year-old daughter, and Draylen Mason, an accomplished musician. His deadly bombs also injured at least four more individuals.
  2. Conditt’s reign of terror began on March 2nd. While his attacks mainly focused around Austin, some bombs were located in FedEx stores in San Antonio.
  3. Conditt was either 23 or 24 years old at the time of his death. He was a graduate of Austin Community College’s Northridge Campus and a former computer programmer.
  4. Someone with the same name and from the same town wrote politically conservative blog posts in 2012. One post was written in favor of the death penalty and others were written in opposition to gay marriage and abortion.
  5. He was living in the Austin suburb of Pflugerville, only two blocks away from the town’s mayor, Victor Gonzales. Neighbors described him as a mild-mannered young man. One publication called him a “devout Christian.”

Police are continuing their investigation into Conditt’s possible motivation for the attack. What makes Conditt’s actions disturbing is that all reporting indicates that he was a nice young man raised in a good Christian home.

Now the question on everyone’s mind is the following: What made him do it? Why inflict terror on his own community?

That question will hopefully be answered in the coming days.
