After decades of allegedly forcing himself upon aspiring and up-and-coming actresses and models, the chickens have finally come home to roost for Hollywood mega-producer Harvey Weinstein. Since the explosive New York Times report on Sunday, Weinstein has been fired from his own production company and condemned by dozens of members of the Hollywood elite, including Kate Winslet, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Angelina Jolie.
Members of the political elite have spoken out against Weinstein, too. Weinstein is a noted liberal mega-donor, and good friends with the likes of Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama. On Tuesday, Obama issued a statement that he and former First Lady Michelle are “disgusted by the recent reports about Harvey Weinstein”:

Obama is right to condemn Weinstein’s actions – and they might hit a little too close to home for the former First Family. That’s because Obama’s eldest daughter Malia interned with Weinstein earlier this year.
In report from January, The Hollywood Reporter revealed, “A source tells THR that Malia, 18, is expected to begin work in the New York office of The Weinstein Co. in February.” It was unclear in which department Malia had her internship in or whether she interacted with Weinstein himself, but Weinstein reportedly assaulted women at the Tribeca office, including model Ambra Battilana Gutierrez in 2015.
Furthermore, it’s been stated ad nauseam that Weinstein’s inappropriate behavior was an open secret in Hollywood. It’s hard to believe that someone as well-connected as Obama wouldn’t have at least heard something about it.
Whatever the case, it’s disgusting that so many people aided and abetted Weinstein’s abhorrent behavior for so long, and it’s about time he was brought to justice.
