Representative Liz Cheney (R-WY) admitted in a new interview on Friday that she voted for Donald Trump in the 2020 presidential election, saying that she regrets it.

Cheney Admits She Voted For Trump

“Did you vote for Donald Trump in 2020?” ABC News anchor Jon Karl asked Cheney in a preview of an interview that will air on Sunday.

“I did,” she confessed.

“Do you regret that vote?” Karl asked. “How could you not regret that vote given what’s happened?”

“I was never going to support Joe Biden, and I do regret the vote,” Cheney explained. “It was a vote based on policy, based on substance, and what I know in terms of the kinds of policies he put forward that were good for the country. But I think it’s fair to say that I regret the vote.”

“If the Republican Party nominates Donald Trump in 2024 could you stay in a Republican Party that decides he should be the nominee again?” Karl asked.

“I will do everything I can to make sure he is not the nominee and everything necessary to make sure he never gets  anywhere close to the Oval Office again,” Cheney said emphatically.

“But would you remain in the party if he were the nominee?” Karl asked, to which Cheney responded, “I will not support him and do everything I can to make sure that doesn’t happen.”

This comes days after Cheney was ousted from her leadership position in the Republican Party for voting to impeach Trump earlier this year. Trump himself spoke out to celebrate Cheney’s ousting.

Trump Slams Liz Cheney

“Liz Cheney is a bitter, horrible human being,” Trump said in a statement, according to Yahoo News. “She has no personality or anything good having to do with politics or our country. She is a talking point for Democrats, whether that means the border, the gas lines, inflation, or destroying our economy.”

“She is a warmonger whose family stupidly pushed us into the never-ending Middle East Disaster, draining our wealth and depleting our great military, the worst decision in our country’s history,” Trump concluded. “I look forward to soon watching her as a paid contributor on CNN or MSDNC!”
